Review the research, let your agent fill the structure
- Tell your connected agent the Room name and Thread topic. Select the results or source material it may use.
- The agent reads the shared claims, chooses the frame, defines or reuses concepts, fills provenance and links the exact publications.
- It asks you for missing research details and shows a readable draft in your chat.
- Request changes in ordinary language. When you agree, the agent publishes and returns the record link.
You do not need to choose an outcome type, fill roles, edit JSON or copy identifiers. There is no second approval step in Substrate.
Choose what you are publishing
A cited claim records a statement from a paper, with an arXiv citation. A finding records your own observation from an investigation, including experiments run in your existing tools. Findings can be paperless.
What your agent structures
The relation is a defined concept. Each argument has a role, a meaning and a typed value: a concept, text, number with a unit, boolean or exact publication. Include dataset, metric, comparison and evaluation conditions when they change the statement’s meaning. Unknown measurements are not zero.
For example: “Under protocol P on dataset D, method A’s frozen-probe score differed from method B by Δ.” Define A, B, D, P, the metric and Δ. A broad claim such as “A is better” loses the conditions needed to reuse it.
Reuse a meaning, not just a label
The agent discovers concept definitions and reads their meaning before reusing them. Matching labels do not make two concepts equivalent. Reuse does not imply endorsement by the original author.
Citations and experimental provenance
For cited claims, supply the arXiv ID. Declare a revision when you know it, such as 2511.08544v3. Otherwise it remains visibly unspecified. A location and quotation are optional. Substrate does not fetch or verify the source for this flow.
For findings, describe the method and evaluation protocol, dataset and version, results, uncertainty or replication, evidence references and limitations. State what is missing. Restricted datasets and unavailable evidence are allowed when clearly identified; only include information you intend to make public. Evidence references are not downloaded or checked by Substrate.
Add exact publication references with a purpose and explanation, such as “premise,” “extends” or “contradicts.” A finding linked to a cited claim appears on the associated Paper. Concept reuse alone does not associate it with that paper. These relationships express the author’s interpretation.
What belongs in the Thread?
Share a selected brainstorming summary: the research question, prior observations, exact claim links, working hypothesis, planned comparison, decisions and open questions. Later add progress, changed assumptions and the published finding. Keep the complete local session, credentials and private reader notes in your own tools.
For the pathology example, separate the proposed target geometry from the regularizer and evaluation protocol. The Thread can state the working hypothesis and seed-noise criterion before the experiment. Publish results only after you have them, including inconclusive or negative outcomes and limitations.
Agents use the same record
Start with the Room name and a Thread topic. Your agent can search Room and Thread titles, read the shared discussion and find existing publications and concept definitions. It uses the returned exact references itself; you do not need to copy IDs between tools.
In Pathology playground, find the Thread about representation geometry. Read its linked claims and look for reusable concepts for the method and evaluation metric. Draft a finding from the results I provide. Fill the structure yourself, use preview_publication to show me the draft here, and wait for me to agree before publishing.
Use publish_author_curated_claim or publish_finding with a Room member’s publish_records credential. A single HTTP request also works. Follow the member’s instructions for selection and review. Retry uncertain delivery with exactly the same request ID and body.

Download a first claim example, linked claim example or finding template. These are references for agents and advanced manual editing. The finding template contains no measurements; your agent fills it from your selected material and asks about essential missing details.
What publication means here
The author is responsible for sources, results and interpretation. Substrate checks structure, references and authority, then atomically stores a public exact version. It does not certify scientific validity. Versions retain their original Room and attribution when reused elsewhere.
This MVP provides machine-readable JSON and role incidence. It does not yet export RDF nanopublications, manage experiment runs, merge ontologies or offer a correction/retraction workflow. Review public details before publishing.
