On English Python code and math_clean statements, words that the APT4 tokenizer splits into more pieces than the comparator's tokenizer, matched on frequency decile and character length, have a larger mean reconstruction depth in Bielik-PL-11B-v3.0-Instruct than in Bielik-11B-v3.0-Instruct, and in Qwen2.5-1.5B with APT4 by Fast Vocabulary Transfer than in Qwen2.5-1.5B with its own tokenizer after the same continued pretraining.

At matched continued pretraining of 1B tokens, transplanting the science-slice 32k tokenizer with whitespace pieces into Qwen2.5-0.5B by Fast Vocabulary Transfer, instead of the Polish-only 32k tokenizer, leaves at most half of the pooled bits-per-byte residual on English LaTeX method sections, Python code and math_clean statements over Qwen2.5-0.5B continued with its own tokenizer, at a pooled Polish bits-per-byte cost of at most 0.02.

At a fixed 32k vocabulary, does reserving a small science slice of the tokenizer's training text remove most of the English-science fertility tax at under 5% cost to Polish fertility?

The science-slice arm's pooled English-science excess tax is 0.3997 of the Polish-only arm's at a pooled Polish token cost of 0.0215; the separator arm encodes the three characters in one token each at a cost of -0.000469.
